Kids weekend art workshop

Got to try the new sets of Crayola Twistables Extreme Colors and True to Life crayons.
Setting an example for kid sister.
Enjoying the Blick Portable studio and the new crayons.
The Winsor Newton Arun Table Easel is just the right scale for budding artists to explore a variety of coloring media on the living room coffee table.
The Intus #8 pastel holder is also a handy tool for using pieces of Caran D'Ache Neocolor I crayons, for its clutch mechanism can be operated by small hands. While it allows the effective use of pieces too small to hold comfortably, it can also be used with whole crayons to prevent them from melting in warm hands during long drawing sessions.
Following elder sister's example and drawing with their new Crayola crayons.
Neocolor I way crayon drawing of butterfly and flower.
Just a bit of Mermaid coloring page fun.
Since the weather was so nice, we took the watercolor session outside to the patio table. The chosen coloring media were the Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer aquarelle sticks that can be used either dry as regular crayons or as convenient watercolor pans.
Adult supervision is always required when allowing children to explore potentially messy media like watercolors, bucket of cleaning water, and brushes.
Aquarelle sticks' large size makes it really easy to pick up lots of juicy color with a 1/4" flat brush for colorful watercolor doodles.
After all these art fun activities, almost forgot to complete the homework due the following day. Might have been better to make sure all homework was done before starting the weekend art workshop.
The short natural wood 5.6 mm leadholder is a comfortable kid-sized writing and drawing tool.

Random post - Olympic Mascots

Recently encountered stuffed versions of a couple of the Canada Winter Olympics 2010 mascots: Miga and Quatchi.
While I understand that there is come controversy regarding their design, there is no denying that they are quite cute and will have great global appeal. At least among the children (and the kids-at-heart) of the World.
If you are striving to create your own cute Manga monster mascots, they would be a fine example to draw inspiration from.

Fun with watercolor crayons

Waterproof outlines were drawn with a Cretacolor Nero drawing lead. Pentel Aquash and Pilot watercolor crayons were used to lightly color it.
The crayon marks blended with a waterbrush. Just be careful to wipe the waterbrush clean on a paper towel when switching from one color area to another.

Couple of aquarelle sticks doodles

Cretacolor 4B graphite drawing lead outlines colored with Faber Castell Albrecht Durer aquarelle sticks.

Golden robot outline drawn with a Zebra disposable brush sign pen fine and colored with aquarelle sticks. Nose jewelry and head dress are loosely inspired on Mochica iconography from the Lord of Sipan.

More mall doodles

Doodles are a mix of fantasy drawings and observation sketches drawn with a Zebra brush sign pen and a Uni-ball 2 mm leadholder while waiting at the mall.

Faber Castell watercolor pencils tin of 12 = nice holiday gift

Tin sets of 12 artist grade watercolor pencils are good gift choices for the artists and sketching hobbyists in your holiday list. They are affordable, pigment rich, compact, and portable which makes them ideal introductory starter sets for sketching and drawing on-the-go. Adding a nice waterbrush and a watercolor postcards pad would make a well-thought out custom gift set.
Color palette of the Faber Castell Albrecht Durer Nature set of 12 watercolor pencils. Labels and outlines drawn with a waterproof Uni-ball Signo DX UM-151 Gel Ink Pen. A cobalt blue aquarelle stick was used for the sky color. Already putting my other recommended stocking stuffer to use as reference for quick sketches, so you might even spot the head of the Schleich Andalusian stallion peeking from behind the hill.
Took advantage of the water-soluble black ink of the Kuretake No. 13 fountain hair brush pen to enhance with a waterbrush the shadow areas on this doodle of the Schleich Mustang stallion after it was colored with the Faber Castell Albrecht Durer Nature watercolor pencils set.

Nicole's cute drawing

Nicole's drawing currently displayed on the fridge.

Couple of good artist stocking stuffers for the holidays

Looking around Target, I found a few items that make for good creative presents for the artists in your shopping list without breaking the holiday budget.
The Schleich Mustang makes for a nice realistic horse drawing reference model, and the scrapbook case is an ideal way of protecting and transporting nice and flat 8.5" X 11" sheets of drawing paper.
The sectioned Halloween colored pencils with 11 different color points inside each barrel is a neat concept for a compact coloring tool, but the colors are not very saturated. Still good fun at 8 colored pencils for a buck on clearance the day after Halloween.

Halloween Coloring Sheets drawn with brush pens

Just a few pictures of the quick coloring doodles I handed out to trick-or-treaters along with Skittles and Sunburst candies last Halloween night. I had fun sketching outside in the cool early evening with my trusty set of brush pens: mainly the Pilot Double Sided Brush Pen, the Uni-ball Brush Pen Set, the Platinum Pocket Brush Pen - soft, and the Kuretake No. 8 Fountain Hair Brush Pen.
