Centerfest Wrap Up

P1220054
Had a blast drawing about 68 cartoon portraits in five hours for the guests at the Kids Zone of DAC Centerfest Arts Festival 2013. Drew quite a few mermaids, princesses, angels, couple of firemen, dragons, and ninjas. There were also a couple of original requests like the "Princess" + "Spider-Man" hybrid shown above. Thank you to all the parents and kids that stopped by to get their souvenir sketches and work on the available craft projects. Looking forward to seeing some of you in the upcoming drawing workshops. In the meantime keep practicing and sketch as often as possible.

Winter 2014 Cartoon Sketching Classes for Winter 2014 at DAC

For the convenience of my readers in Durham, these are my planned Cartoon Sketching workshops for Winter 2014 at the Durham Arts Council.  My fall 2014 are listed here.

Cartoon Sketching Anime & Manga Characters and Creatures (Ages 5-12)
Sharpen eye-hand coordination and drawing skills while creating characters and fantasy creatures found in action and super hero movies, Japanese animation, and comic books. Create a cast and design a world to tell your own stories through comics or illustrated mini books. Class is suitable for beginners as well as advanced students that wish to continue to refine their sketching skills and try new art materials. Listed subtitles are flexible enough, so that each student may focus on the theme of their preference.

Ninjas and Dragons 14W415.1 Wednesday, 5:15-7:00 PM January 22-February 5 (3 weeks)

Galactic Showdown 14W415.2 Wednesday, 5:15-7:00 PM February 19 – March 5 (3 weeks)

Anime-Manga Speed Sketching (Ages 11-15)
Inspired by the classic archetypes found in Anime & Manga, create and sketch characters (protagonist, friends, and rivals) and creatures to build your character references guide and tell your own stories through comics. Try new art materials to upgrade your sketching kits. All sketching levels welcomed since instructor provides individual guidance. Feel free to bring your favorite sketchbook journal and sketching tools. Might be a good idea to pack a snack and beverage to maintain your creative energy during this 3-hour long drawing session.”

Colorful Aztec Dragons

P1210195
I always find it fun to see the many different coloring approaches that students use on my coloring templates.
P1210194
The Aztec-inspired feathered serpent coloring page has been pretty popular lately during art camps and stand-alone single Manga Cartoon Sketching workshops.

These particular examples are from an impromptu coloring contest at one of my guest artist appearances at the Durham Arts Council art camps.
